Garcez drew inspiration from instrumental stoner rock groups like Bongripper, Belzebong, and Yawning Man. Our main musical objective is to craft a stoner rock sound that is heavy, slow, melodic, and psychedelic. Additionally, we incorporate rhythmic influences spanning from classical music to Afro-Brazilian rhythms. To achieve this goal, we explore a wide range of different instruments. We hope you enjoy it!
"The album 'Ancestral Power' by the band Garcez was a delightful discovery on Bandcamp, featuring heavy and hypnotic riffs. From the third track onward, it becomes evident that, although there are five tracks listed, the album is, in fact, a single composition divided into different parts.
The first section sets the stage for the listeners with familiar melodies, captivating riffs inspired by 70s bands, and an impressive sense of weight. With exceptional tones, the album kicks off in a colossal manner. The guitar solos, reminiscent of Tony Iommi and Matt Pike, create a strong psychedelic ambiance. The standout feature here is the combination of instruments, including synthesizers and violins, intertwining with the force of bass and drums.
The second part offers a more hypnotic sensation, with clean guitars in the background reminiscent of bands like The Cure and Joy Division.
The third part is surprising and became my favorite. Many elements are happening simultaneously. Peculiar yet remarkable riffs emerge while a Brazilian instrument called 'berimbau' plays in the background, accompanied by drums. The organ solo, inspired by the 60s, is extraordinary. This part of the album serves as a prelude to the climax, which is undoubtedly this track.
After a sequence of heavy riffs, the fourth part of the album transports us to a realm of psychedelic beauty while maintaining its mesmerizing quality. The music gradually builds as a wah-wah guitar plays in the background, culminating in the final part, which features an exceptional melody and two incredible guitar solos.
As mentioned earlier, 'Ancestral Power' is a remarkable find. It certainly distinguishes itself from the stoner doom stereotype, and it's precisely this distinction that makes it extraordinary. If you're in search of something entirely new, give Garcez a chance.
